Believe it or not, Easter is nearly here. For me, the word “Easter” conjures up images of brightly colored eggs, family celebrations, and of course, awkward pictures with some guy in an Easter Bunny suit. And like any American holiday, food is a very important part of Easter Sunday as well.
Some families bring in their foreign grandmothers from out of town to slave over a delicious, traditional meal, large enough to feed the whole extended family. Others rebel against the formality of the holiday and simply order a pizza for their family gathering. And then there’s people like me, people who A) don’t live near family, and/or B) don’t feel like cooking an elaborate meal on their day off, but still want to do something special.
If you’re like me and have no one to cook for you and refuse to cook for yourself, I have the perfect solution: eat out! After all, Easter is kind of like International Sunday Brunch Day, right? I’m excited to treat myself this Sunday by relaxing with a mimosa and leaving the cooking to the professionals.
I’ve put together a list of great dining locations that would be perfect for Easter brunch. Whip out your cutest floral top and white jeans, and head to one of the following restaurants.
Pin It!Stars is a favorite among locals and tourists in the area. The large downstairs dining room is spacious and the full-length windows allow guests to gaze upon the heart of King Street. Stars offers an upscale buffet brunch every Sunday, but will offer special dishes for Easter. On top of excellent service, brunch at Stars will include a buffet of warm biscuits, shrimp and grits, fried chicken benedict, and an omelet station. There is also an entire section specifically for deserts! And the best part – you can enjoy after-brunch drinks on their beautiful rooftop. The brunch is $22 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
Pin It!Located in Charleston’s historic French Quarter, SNOB is a beautifully decorated white-table-cloth establishment. The restaurant serves a combination of American, Southern-style, and seafood dishes. SNOB’s exposed brick walls, ornate chandeliers, and white pillars set the perfect backdrop for any elegant evening. On Easter Sunday, the restaurant will offer a three-course meal for brunch. The menu is a tasteful combination of SNOB favorites and specialty dishes. The $35 prix fixe menu will highlight fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients.
Pin It!If you’re in the mood for tasty, Southern-style food in an “fine dining casual” setting, Virginia’s is the perfect place. The atmosphere is open and bright – perfect for a small group. Their brunch menu has everything imaginable on it. Whether you’re in the mood for eggs, a po boy, biscuits, or oysters, Virginia’s has it. I’ll let you in on a secret though: their strawberry stuffed French toast is the best French toast I’ve ever had in my whole life, and I’ve had A LOT of French toast. Seriously. Everyone needs to taste it at least once.
Pin It!I’ve enjoyed Easter brunch here twice and had an amazing afternoon both times! The menu offers dishes in a lower price range than the other four restaurants, and the atmosphere is cozy and sophisticated. While the breakfast menu is brief, Rarebit offers all the classic dishes cooked to perfection. My personal favorite items on the menu are the Huevos Rancheros and their French toast topped with strawberry and banana. Honestly, it’s just a really awesome breakfast spot, and their unique bar menu doesn’t hurt either.
Pin It!This has been my favorite downtown brunch spot for a while now. It’s slightly hidden and has kept a relatively low profile, but the secret is starting to get out. When it comes to atmosphere, no one tops 5Church. The restaurant is located in a beautiful, renovated church that features stunning stain glass windows. The large windows let in a ton of light, illuminating the black ceiling which is covered in white writing done by local artists. The restaurant offers American cuisine and has an extensive and affordable breakfast menu. The semi-fine dining establishment is offering an Easter Brunch Buffet featuring a raw bar and carving station. The buffet is priced at $30 for adults and $15 for kids.
